Anonymous asked: How has the weather in Baton Rouge been lately? Have you done anything exciting lately?

Ah, a question that would better be answered with a picture than text, but I have no camera that could do the climate here justice. The weather has been wonderfully bipolar as of late, honestly. But after living here for almost three years, that what I’ve expected. Spring means pretty cold one day into awkwardly hot the next, mugginess and all. On average it has actually been great the past few weeks though, if not on the warm side. Humidity sucks no matter what though.

As to doing anything exciting lately, I was recently chosen to be the station manager for the summer and fall semesters at LSU’s radio station KLSU. Been working there for a year and I’m really looking forward to trying my hand at herding cats, it should be fun.

johnsea asked: whats the meaning of life

This might be the first time I’ve ever answered something of this nature publicly. Honestly, I don’t think there is a empirical answer. That is more of a spiritual question. For 3.5 billion years there wasn’t even a question, it was merely “survive until you produce offspring” — that’s it. Now, because of the ability to communicate and transfer incredibly complex ideas, we have artificially constructed ideas and placed them over biological necessities and created something so abstract from something so real.

Just live.

Anonymous asked: Also, Instragram for android. Nudge Nudge. ;]

I wish I had the skills or eye to even be remotely considered an “amateur” photographer, but sadly that is not the case. I doubt even sepia filters can help with that one. I will do my best to take pictures of beautiful landscapes and food from Louisiana though. Those two seem to be in abundance, and I doubt they can be messed up too badly.

I want to experience a day like this. Somewhere completely surrounded by nature, with no cares in the world, literally watching the universe pass by.

Anyone care to join me?

Amazing time-lapse video captures the night sky

By Claudine Zap | The Upshot

Temporal Distortion from Randy Halverson on Vimeo

Think you’ve seen the night sky? Not like this. Photographer Randy Halverson took months (when the weather was clear) to shoot the stars overhead of the White River in central South Dakota, Arches National Park in Utah, Canyon of the Ancients area of Colorado, and Madison, Wisconsin. He put it all together in a time-lapse video set to music by the out-of-this-world composer Bear McCreary, who wrote the moody soundtracks to “Battlestar Galactica” and “The Walking Dead.”

Along with a star-filled sky, the photog caught the tail of a meteor and the northern lights. The score adds a dramatic and other-worldly counterpoint. Feast your eyes. Here, Halverson takes us through “Temporal Distortion.” If you can’t get enough of this amazing light show, check out the extended 23-minute version.

I needed this to realize just how small my problems are.
